Merge Technologies Releases
New Radiology Workflow Application - MergeNet;
Web-based viewing technology provides referring physicians
with real-time access to diasnostic images and reports.
Milwaukee, WI, February 28, 2001
Merge Technologies today announced the release of
MergeNet, a new product within its PACSbuilder suite
of radiology workflow solutions. MergeNet securely provides
referring physicians on-line access to radiology images
and reports. MergeNet is a browser-based application
that combines radiology reports with associated images
and securely delivers them over the Web using Merge's
ImageChannel wavelet streaming technology. Software
maintenance and upgrades are easily managed through
web-based software downloads that limit the amount of
service and support necessary on each end-user PC.
Rich Linden, Merge's President and CEO said, "The
development of MergeNet is another milestone in Merge's
continuing focus on HIPAA-ready radiology workflow solutions
using the Integrated Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) model.
IHE is a core design strategy for all Merge products.
MergeNet is of particular importance as we now provide
the supporting technology for the radiologist and referring
physician to become true diagnostic partners at minimal
deployment and service cost to our customer's IT department."
The Medical College of Wisconsin was among the first
to validate the MergeNet application. "The MergeNet
product was built with a very intuitive user interface
with a focus toward the referring physician. Because
the product is browser-based, little effort is required
by the Information Services staff to support the deployment
of this solution. MergeNet combines the images with
the report, which is the real output of the radiology
department, and the Web is the single most effective
way of delivering this critical information to referring
physicians," said Paul Nagy PhD, Assistant Professor
of Radiology, Medical Physics and Informatics at the
Medical College of Wisconsin. "MergeNet adds additional
functionality on the technically robust MergeWeb development
platform, and continues to increase Merge Technologies'
support of radiology department workflow."
