CEDARA SOFTWARE ANNOUNCES INTRODUCTION OF C4 ENABLED
DIGITAL MAMMOGRAPHY APPLICATION
I-ReadMammo™ can be plugged into all C4™ ( Cedara Clinical Control Center)
enabled solutions
Toronto, ON, September 6, 2007 – Cedara Software, a Merge Healthcare company (NASDAQ: MRGE;TSX: MRG), and a leading medical imaging software and services provider, announced the introduction of a C4 enabled I-ReadMammo, creating a plug-in version of its successful digital mammography solution. C4 enabled I-ReadMammo is designed for modular integration into any C4 enabled imaging solution, such as a Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS). Cedara also reported that several imaging equipment vendors already are integrating this new C4 enabled version of I-ReadMammo into their PACS solutions.
Cedara’s recently introduced C4 platform is an integration framework that facilitates plug-in integration of clinical applications with minimal changes to the host (e.g. PACS) software product. A C4 enabled host integrated with one or more C4 enabled clinical applications provides an integrated desktop environment with procedure-centric workflow. The C4 platform supports integration with imaging companies’ PACS, Radiology Information Systems (RIS) and Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems. The term “C4 enabled” refers both to the C4 host – for example, a PACS workstation – and to the clinical application that runs on the host, such as a 3D angiography visualization tool or a planning package for orthopaedic procedures. C4 provides a standard interface for all bi-directional information between the C4 enabled host and clinical application plug-in, creating a tightly integrated solution that is designed to maximize productivity.
“C4 enabled I-ReadMammo represents another opportunity for clinicians to provide the benefits of digital mammography for their patients,” said Cedara Software president Loris Sartor. “Now, obtaining these benefits can be as simple as plugging the software application into the C4 enabled host manufactured by the PACS, RIS or EMR company.”
Cedara Software’s popular I-ReadMammo application was specifically designed to address the entire breast imaging workflow. Both standalone and C4 enabled versions of I-ReadMammo are multi-modality, vendor-neutral digital mammography workstation solutions, enabling healthcare organizations on a single workstation to display and read images from different vendors and different acquisition devices (digital mammography, ultrasound, MR, CR).
Another Cedara C4 enabled clinical application is Cedara OrthoWorks ProPlanner™. Under development are C4 enabled PET/CT*, for advanced radiology procedures, and Cedara B-CAD*, to assist in breast ultrasound analysis. New third-party clinical packages from Biotronics3D also are under development for 3D virtual colonoscopy, 3D angiography and 3D general diagnostics.
*Note: C4 enabled PET/CT and C4 enabled B-CAD are works-in-progress.
