CEDARA SOFTWARE TO HIGHLIGHT CUSTOM ENGINEERING SERVICES
AND
INNOVATIVE IMAGING SOLUTIONS AT THE 2007 RADIOLOGICAL
SOCIETY OF NORTH AMERICA (RSNA) MEETING

Toronto, ON, November 14, 2007 – Cedara Software, a Merge Healthcare company (NASDAQ: MRGE;TSX: MRG), and a leading medical imaging software and services company, today announced its solution showcase for the upcoming RSNA meeting, Chicago, Illinois, November 25 – 30, 2007. Located at McCormick Place, South Building – Hall A, booth 1316, Cedara will exhibit a diverse array of innovative software solutions for OEM’s and medical imaging developers worldwide. These solutions, including custom engineering services and an extensive range of advanced imaging technologies, are designed to provide a positive return on R&D investment by yielding reduced development costs and faster time to market.

"For 20 years, Cedara Software has provided our OEM partners with the blueprints and building blocks needed to create customized medical imaging software solutions," said Cedara Software president Loris Sartor. "From the initial DICOM standards creation to today’s latest clinical applications, Cedara has been a silent partner to much of the innovation in our field. For companies interested in discovering ways to speed development of new applications in cost-effective and visionary ways, Cedara offers a wide range of solutions, many of which will be exhibited at RSNA this year."

Custom Engineering Services
Cedara’s Custom Engineering group is one of the largest and most successful operations in the industry, working with a broad range of companies. The team is complemented by advanced technologies that dramatically reduce engineering times and provide cutting edge capabilities to clients’ products. We will showcase examples of positive returns on investment – ranging from successful collaborations with large R&D departments to serving as the entire development team for small start-up ventures.

Advanced Imaging
Cedara will showcase advanced enabling technologies for medical imaging companies. Some of these include:

  • Advanced Segmentation: Libraries for Lesion Contouring, in which tumor identification in ultrasound, CT, mammography and MR is greatly simplified. Cedara also will showcase Mammography Skinline detection for optimal viewing of mammography images and inverse rendering.
  • Digital X-ray Image Optimization: Delivers Image Enhancement, Shutter Detection and removal, Auto-stitching and Optimum Window display for use by innovators in digital x-ray.
  • Registration & Fusion: Provides flexible methods for rigid and deformable registration of multi-modalities for use in clinical procedures.
  • Server-side rendering engine (Cedara Imaging Service Grid [ISG]): A new enabler for vendors investigating introduction of server-side rendering into their solutions using their existing viewers.

C4™ (Cedara Clinical Control Center™)
The C4 platform delivers desktop integration of clinical applications to an established RIS/PACS solution. This application plug-in integration and development model shortens the development cycle, accelerating time-to-market and delivering a streamlined best-of-breed clinical imaging solution. In essence, C4 acts as an invisible layer between different software applications, creating a means for bidirectional information exchange between each unit. Using a component based architecture, C4 creates a framework for host and plug-in applications to operate together in unison, sharing system resources. In this way, C4 minimizes the time and cost of integrating and maintaining the clinical application array required by today’s clinicians.

Cedara will show C4 integration throughout its booth and at the exhibits of several customers that have embraced C4. C4 hosts at the Cedara booth will include:

  • Cedara I-Reach: New to Cedara I-Reach is C4 integration*, a Works in Progress, which will enable I-Reach to launch into a variety of C4 enabled plug-in applications. I-Reach facilitates diagnostic image review over the Internet.
  • Cedara aXigate™ for Clinical Trials*, a Works in Progress:This platform combines patient and trial information integrated with clinical trials viewers in a web solution.

Cedara Software also will exhibit several C4 enabled clinical application plug-ins, including:

  • Cedara I-ReadMammo™: This multi-modality, vendor-neutral mammography viewing application has proven success in providing PACS companies with mammography workflow capabilities.
  • Cedara I-Response™ C4* Works in Progress: This advanced application is specifically designed for fast, efficient analysis of tumor response. Supporting multiple modalities, Cedara I-Response allows users to automatically generate a variety of quantitative calculations, compare tumor activity at multiple time points and visualize therapy response in individual, configurable layouts.
  • Cedara OrthoWorks ProPlanner™: With highly automated viewing and minimal mouse clicks, this templating and stitching application brings orthopaedic workflow to any imaging desktop.
  • Cedara PET/CT™ C4* Works in Progress: Developed to follow radiology workflow, this application solves image fusion challenges in a PACS environment.
  • Cedara B-CAD™ C4* Works in Progress: Third-party, C4 enabled version of this ultrasound CAD application from Medipattern.
  • Biotronics3D: Third-party, C4 enabled clinical plug-in applications by Biotronics3D. These Works in Progress solutions include Virtual Colonoscopy*, Angiography* and General Diagnostic*.

Cedara Development Tools
Using Cedara platforms and toolkits, developers have ready access to technologies and open standard environments needed to meet the rigorous demands of today’s medical imaging market. Engineers can quickly develop new solutions in an efficient and cost-effective manner. Development tools include:

  • Open Eyes™: Available in Java and .NET, this platform includes all of the essential connectivity, visualization and printing components that can be used for new development or as extensions to existing applications. The OpenEyes programming model represents a paradigm shift from previous technologies, completely insulating clients from the complexities of deep code development by providing a single uniform set of controls and development interfaces.
  • MergeCOM-3 DICOM Toolkit: Available in Java and .NET, this toolkit greatly reduces the time to bring DICOM conformant products to the medical imaging market by enabling developers to focus on their product application rather than the low level details of the DICOM protocol. This Software Development Kit provides simple, high-level abstraction of DICOM messaging details, and comprehensive sample applications are a straightforward demonstration of programming concepts. For many medical imaging applications, slight customization of the sample applications is the only development required. MergeCOM-3, version 3.8*, a Works in Progress, supports new supplements to the DICOM standard.

Cedara Connectivity Tools
Cedara offers a wide variety of solutions for integrating many patient information and image sources into an end-to-end healthcare enterprise information flow. Solutions range from high-quality analog video acquisition to EHR/HIS integration of radiology systems. An example is:

  • MergeBox™ Video*: This Works in Progress streaming video acquisition device enables capture from multiple sources of patient data and images, and is fully integrated into the RIS/PACS workflow. MergeBox™ Video provides an efficient way to capture legacy data, as well as integrate specialized imaging, such as endoscopy or cardiology imaging, into the existing RIS/PACS.
