Software of Unknown Pedigree (SOUP)
Also known as off-the-shelf software is software that is already developed and generally available and that has not been developed for the purpose of being incorporated into the product or software previously developed for which adequate records of the development processes are not available. SOUP is the term being used now by standards such as IEC 62304. Also known as "Off-the-Shelf" (OTS) software or "Commercial Off-the-Shelf" (COTS) software, or Free or Open Source Software (FOSS).
